So Friday night we went down to Good Shepherd Lutheran to lend a hand to at the Feed My Starving Children event. We worked along with over 100 other youth from the Metro St Louis Coalition Youth for two hours making food packs.
We started off the evening with an orientation video from Feed My Starving Children. Three years ago, the number of children who starved to death each day was 18,100. In the past three years, FMSC and other organizations have been able to drop this staggering number down to 6100 a day. Though that number is still high, it is amazing the progress that has occurred in such a short time.
Next, we slapped on our hair nets and started making food packs. The Manna Rice Packs consisted on vitamins, dried veggies, soy and rice. After verifying the weight of each, they would be heat sealed and placed in boxes. Once a box was full, our group would shout out with a loud 'Table Two loves packing food!'
All in all, our shift was able to make 131 boxes of food. This food will feed 76 children for the next year. 76. That is 76 kids who will be nourished and have an opportunity to do more than just survive. It is an awesome feeling to impact so many young ones.
Thank to all the youth who made this possible and Good Shepherd for hosting such a worthwhile event. Once I get the final figures, but the goal was to make 300,000 meals.
